Why Choose Us?

Noisegate is a professional music production and duplication facility that provides music for BBC Television and Radio programmes (e.g. Jackanory, Dead Ringers and That Mitchell and Webb Look). We understand how to optimise digital music files - our system of encoding gives much higher quality results than ripping CDs into iTunes. Our standard method of encoding MP3 files is so good that all our our staff have had their collections ripped using this system.

If you wish to read about our codecs and bitrates then please se the technical section of the FAQ - sufice to say that we emloy a system that takes more of our time but gives you better results than the majority of CD encoding services available.

Which Format(s) Should You Choose?

MP3
This format is the most widely supported by manufacturers of media players, both portable and WiFi. It offers a very eficient means of compressing audio (you can fit a lot of CDs onto your player or hard drive) and when used to best advantage (as with our system) gives results that are hard to ditinguish from the original.
AAC
The Apple Audio Codec is the default format for ripping CDs into iTunes and can be played on an iPod and some other hardware players. It is not as well supported as the MP3 format but does give good results in terms of quality vs file size.
FLAC
This format is gaining popularity and respect amongst HiFi enthusiasts as it is a very efficient way of archiving your music collection without any loss of quality. We now deliver entire edited and mixed radio shows to the BBC using this format which dempnstrates it's acceptance as a new standard. We recommend the use of FLAC to back up your music collection to an external hard drive - this has the advantage that you can convert it to any format that may emerge in the future without having to rip all of your CDs again!

How Will You Receive Your Digital Library?

Our standard method for deliver is on data DVD with a printed index, we can fit around 50 CDs onto one DVD as MP3 or AAC files. These can then be loaded onto your PC or MP3 player very simply.

If you supply us with your MP3 player at the time of ordering we will upload your entire library for free

Should you take up our recommendation of getting FLAC files and MP3 files then you will need an external hard drive for the FLAC files as they are much larger than MP3 or AAC. These can be purchased very reasonably when you place your order or you are welcome to supply your own.
